Opera Artist Institute
for Emerging Singers
The Emerald City Opera 2013 Opera Artist Institute is an eleven day, intensive performance oriented program for singers designed to advance the art form of opera by contributing to the training of emerging professional singers. Established in 2008, ECO’s Opera Artist Institute plays a vital role in the life of the opera company, giving emerging artists a wide range of opportunities to learn and perform in a fast paced and supportive environment. For 2013, the Institute offers opportunities to student directors, conductors and pianist-coaches, as well as singers.
The program also expands the company’s season and regional outreach with performances of opera scenes sung exclusively by Institute participants, and presented throughout the geographic area. The Institute performances introduce opera to a wider audience by bringing high-quality performances directly to remote communities at a far lower price point.
Institute participants are chosen through an application and audition process (see below for details). Selected participants are in residence in Steamboat Springs for eleven days in August, and manage a rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule including daily voice coachings, daily staging rehearsals, evening concerts, touring production performances, mainstage production performances, and other community appearances and concerts.
